Lead Pastor
Rev. Sean Wan
Personal Introduction
More than twenty years ago, he began his professional career as a consultant, navigating the intersection of rational thinking and strategic decision-making, using data and analytical models to address complex business challenges. Yet behind the seemingly perfect solutions he developed time and again, he gradually came to realize, as a Christian, that the deepest longings and struggles of the human heart cannot be fully answered or satisfied by data and logic alone. The greatest deficiency of our time is not a lack of financial resources, technology, management tools, or talent, but the emptiness and brokenness of the human heart that comes from not knowing God. This realization led him to reconsider the direction of his life.
One step of obedience led him away from the familiar and brought him to the United States in 2015 to attend the Evangelical Theological Seminary. In 2018, he completed his Master of Divinity (M.Div.). Those years were not merely a time of acquiring theological knowledge, but also a season in which his life was shaped and renewed, and his calling was strengthened once again—a journey from learning to rely on himself to learning to trust in God's leading.
After graduation, he was led by God into pastoral ministry. In January 2019, he joined the ministry team of Irvine Chinese First Baptist Church as a minister, and in 2024, he was ordained as a pastor. He now seeks to participate in God's greater story: bringing hope and comfort to people in the midst of brokenness and bearing witness, amid the anxieties of our age, to the truth that brings lasting peace.
Throughout this journey, he has not walked alone. Together with his wife, who has shared in this calling, they support one another as they raise a daughter and a son. Through family life, they have experienced both God's grace and the continual process of growth and refinement. Work, theological study, ministry, and family life have become intertwined, forming a clear and consistent thread throughout his journey—not a story that he is writing for himself, but one in which God is continually writing His story through him, through the church he serves, and through the many brothers and sisters who love and faithfully follow Him.
